The Dutch, concerned with providing widespread general education, established tax-supported common schools under church and state control in most of New Netherland's communities. These maps were compiled by the Committee on the State Education System for an Atlas of School Districts in New York State to be used by the Committee in developing the Master Plan for School District Reorganization.
